A Sunburn

Treating and soothing a sunburn

There are a lot of people who get sunburned. Sunburns can lead to skin cancer. Wear protective clothing, sunglasses, hats, and lots of sunblock if you know you are going out.

The first thing you should do after you know you have a sunburn is take a warm (not hot, or this will hurt) shower, as this will open up the pores and let the trapped heat out. Some people like to take cold showers and you can to, though it is not recommended. When you are done, put some aloe Vera on it, or other type of sunburn treating gel. I also recommend to take a warm bath with three cups of vinegar. When you get out, don't dry yourself off with a towel, pat yourself very gently and let yourself air dry.

Wear some loose fitting clothing if the next day it has not gone away. This will make you feel more comfortable. If it starts hurting really bad, take some medicine such as ibuprofen. Drink lots of water, because you can get dehydrated easily when you have a sunburn. Stay out of the sun until it goes away. Peeling is a natural part of the healing process of a sunburn.

Pastes

Yogurt-Take plain unsweetened yogurt and apply it to the skin. Let dry.Wash after 20 minutes.

Corn Starch-Make a paste of corn starch and water(50-50). This dries quickly, so apply fast. Also works for poison ivy, oak, and sumac.

Cucumber-Take a peeled cucumber and blend it. Take the blended cucumber and apply it to the burn. Take a shower 30 minutes after you put it on.

See a docter

If you are in a lot of pain, blistered in a large area of your body,or have a fever, then you should call your doctor. The doctor might have an antibiotic ointment that he wants you to use or may recommend a specific home remedy for some relief.

Sunburn facts

A person's risk for melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, doubles if he or she has had five or more sunburns.

The Skin Cancer Foundation took a poll, and found that 42 percent of people gets a sunburn at least once a year

Kids recieve between 50% and 80% of sun exposure in their lifetime before age 18

The sun does give us a valuable source of vitamin D.

My family uses Aloe for sun burns. We try to put sunblock on the kids frequently, but sometimes it just isn't enough.

Taking a hot or even warm shower can really hurt. Taking a much cooler shower is a must if you have a bad burn

david 470.. that is true, but if you want to get rid of it, take a warm shower, as this will open up the pores.
