5 reasons to adopt a dog
75A dog is an animal with four legs, a tail, and a lot of energy for those of you who don't know. You can look in the local newspapers, go to the vet, or look online for a list of dogs that are waiting to be sold. I will tell you 5 reasons why to get a dog in this article, and hope that you decide to buy one. Remember that a dog is a responsibility, and must be taken care of properly. You must feed and water it, groom it, and even put flea collars on it.
Dogs can get rid of lots of problems such as loneliness, pests, and burglars. They can also cause some problems if they are not potty trained, or obedient. There is a list of dogs below. To see a picture of the dogs listed, there is a slide show on the right. If you are having trouble picking an indoor dog, then maybe you should read my article "Top Dogs to have around the house." Without any further ado, here is our five reasons:
Top 10 dogs
This is just a list of common well known dogs. There is a picture of each of them above.
1) Boxer
2) Rottweiler
3) Chiuhuahua
4) Yorkshire Terrier
5) Labrador Retriver
6) Great Dane
7) Papillon
8) Golden Retriever
9) Poodle
10) German Sheppard
1) Fun and loving
Most dogs are fun and loving, and love to be around kids. Special need children, or the elderly will love to have someone to talk to and be around. You can gossip with your dog, or go out hunting with your dog. Most dogs like to be walked every day, and this can be great exercise for both you and your dog. I would recommend getting a dog if you have a baby, because they love being around children, especially small dogs. There are over 300 species of dogs, and each one has something special about it.
2) Gaurd dogs
This is mainly for the larger breeds dogs, but also applies to some smaller ones as well. The smaller breeds like Pomeranian, Chihuahua, and Yorkshires are lots of bark, and no bite. The larger breeds like Rottweiler, Boxer, and Great Danes will keep out almost any stranger. Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and hearing, so they can tell when a stranger is coming, or when something just isn't right. There was even a case in Illinois were a dog can tell when a person is about to die. The science behind this is that before you die of cancer, you body gives off an odor that is undetectable to humans. The dog would sit by the patient and bark all night.
3) Will not critize you
You can put nearly any food in front of them, and they will like it. They will just sit there happily and eat what ever you put in front of them. I wouldn't recommend giving them table food or chocolate, this may cause the dog to become ill, and possibly die. You can also talk to the dog, and say anything you want, as they have no way to tell anybody else(at least in this century.) A good dong wont care if you are fat or thin, ugly or not, smart or dumb, they will always love you as long as you love them.
4) 300+ breeds
As I said before, there are over 300 breeds of dogs. There is garunteed a dog to fit your personality. There are dogs that love football, dogs that love hunting, and dogs that love to sit and watch TV with you. For the ladies out there, there are dogs that love listening to you, dogs that love to cuddle with you, and even dogs that like to dress up with you. I have included a list of dogs to the right. You might want to research a dog breed before you get it.
5) Make some money
Some dogs can be expensive... Very expensive. I think that the hardest part is selling a dog, and hoping that the owner can take care of it properly. You can breed dogs, and sell them. Boxers average from the price of $500 to $750. If you have a liter of 3 or 4, this is a pretty good income. Chihuahua usually cost about $350. And a good bulldog can go for a whopping $2000.Some people actually make a living off this. Most dogs can be trained also. This can be very useful when selling. A potty-trained dog would probably go for about $25 more than one that isn't trained. Some people do this to pay for their gas, bills, or just to save for a rainy day.
I hope that you liked my article, and decide to buy a dog soon. They really are loving and caring animals(most of them) and great to have around the house. Just make sure that you feed and water them, take them on walks and love them.

I have a male chihuahua and a female mutt (or "dog of undefined breed" for the politically correct crowd :P). After having the chihuahua for a decade and the mutt for about 3 years, I can't understand how people can throw dogs out into the streets to fend for themselves. Darned critters grow on you. :)
Thanks for the hub! :D
Dogolicious, I love dogs, and the one I have is the most well mannered Sable orange mini pom. She is the best of the 12 dogs I have had so far. Dogs are a responsibility and one has to be ready to give them time, love and care. Beautiful pictures!
Well, the chihuahua is Camelot and the mutt is Maru.
I didn't name the chihuahua though; the previous owner did that (my cousin).
And yeah, it totally stinks. Some people don't have a heart or a conscience.
